Adopt Rather Than Acquire
Now that warm climate is right here, we can all take pleasure in spending time with each other indoors and out. She’d been lying in bed reading Stephen King’s Pet Sematary and had just got to the bit where the dead cat came back alive, when our cat jumped on to her bed from apparently nowhere (she stated she hadn’t seen it all evening and believed perhaps we had put it out)!
We usually adopt rescues, but I have to say that we have been bamboozled much more than when by humane societies who, in the understandable interest of trying to find houses for creatures, are much less than forthcoming—dare I even say significantly less than sincere?—about the true nature of their animals.
With our a lot more than 4,000 animal welfare partners, we inspire and empower communities to make a difference by investing in adoption and healthcare careprograms, spay and neuter services, pet cancer research, service and therapy animals, and quite a few other lifesaving initiatives.
If you’re pondering about adopting a greyhound who has seizures, read on. I’ll introduce you to Buster, talk a bit about canine epilepsy, speak a bit about what it is truly like to live with an epileptic hound – what you will need to have to know prior to you adopt – and share what we’re learning along the way.
Honestly, if there was yet another practical way to avoid pet overpopulation, I would certainly think about it. But as it stands now spay and neuter is the greatest tool we have to bring pet population in line with the quantity of residences available for them.
