Is CBD Oil Safe for Your Pet?

The idea of your dog getting high may seem funny, but there is a lot more to it than that. There are so many dog ailments that are treatable by using CBD oil. And since you are not getting any of the psychoactive elements of cannabis with CBD oil, it is completely safe to give your dog in small quantities. So long as you are careful with the dosage, and you are not giving it to your dog every single day, there is no reason why CBD oil would harm your pet in any way. Here are more details on how CBD oil can react in a dog’s system.

CBD Oil and Dogs

Remember that when we speak about giving cannabis to a dog, we are talking about CBD oil or American Hemp oil. Hemp oil has very little THC – less than 0.3 percent. In contrast, the marijuana that you may get to smoke will have anywhere from 10 to 15 percent THC. We can see why the body’s reaction to the different substances will not be the same.

We already know that when we consume CBD or hemp oil, it is interacting with the endocannabinoid system in our body – a nervous system. And the same endocannabinoid system is found in all mammals, including dogs. We also know that dogs share around 70 percent of the same biology as humans. We can cautiously assume that if we are using CBD and getting a certain reaction, then we are going to see a very similar reaction in dogs. And there are some studies showing that when you give CBD oil to a dog, the CBD is going to stay within the dog’s system for even longer than it would for a human – with no toxic effects.

How Much Oil to Use?

It is understandable that people may be a little bit confused about how much hemp oil to give their pet. The good news is that you can now buy hemp legally in the United States, which means you can buy it online for lower prices. If you are concerned about the price, it is not an issue. If you are just using it for your dog, a bottle of hemp oil will last you for a very long time.

General advice is that you should start with a very small dose – such as a tiny drop or two. If you have a very small dog, a tiny drop is a great place to start. A larger drop would be good for a bigger dog. But do not go more than that on the first dose – as you do not want your dog to react badly to this substance.

Always wait at least two or three hours before you are giving your dog more CBD or hemp oil. Why? Because it does take a bit of time for the CBD to react with the endocannabinoid system. If you give one dose at the start, and then another dose in an hour, you could be overdosing your dog without even realizing it.
